More than 300,000 people - out of an electorate of 2.4million in Berlin - voted for the anti-immigrant Alternative for Germany (Af D), led by Frauke Petry,(inset) according to an estimation based on exit polls.
With 13 per cent of the vote, the Af D will enter the city state parliament for the first time.
Opponents of Angela Merkel's (top) immigration policy have become increasingly vocal in recent months, with numerous protests in German cities, including Berlin.(bottom) The Af D, founded in 2013 as an anti-euro party, currently polls nationally at between 11 and 14 per cent.
